Osteopathy
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a hands-on manual therapy that addresses the whole person. The muscles, bones, connective tissues and joints, as well as blood flow, viscera/organs of the body, immune health and the nervous system. Osteopaths use a range of hands-on techniques to address your complaints and related body patterns to create ease in the body, to assist healing and recovery. We aim to educate the person on their concerns and provide exercises, stretch and strengthening programs for rehab and pain management.
Osteopathy was founded by A.T.Still in the 1800s, informed by his experience and training as a physician and his deep respect for nature and his understanding of our place within its balance. The philosophy and practice is founded on the principle that the body's structure and its function are inextricably linked, the body is a whole, integrated system with an innate intelligence and ability to heal. Assessment, treatment and management of a patient considers the person and their presentation within this paradigm.
Osteopaths are registered Allied Health Professionals who have completed a Bachelors and Masters in Osteopathy. They are regulated by AHPRA and covered by most major private healthcare funds. Medicare rebates are available for GP approved patients on Allied Health/Chronic Disease management plans.
